Steve Wright passes on thanks to the Carrotland lot:

Hi Folks

The grand Carrotland Coin Collection has been completed. I have sorted, bagged, and counted the lot. Yesterday evening I handed it over to a Leukaemia Research Fund representative who lives in Ipswich.
The final tally was:

  • £111.45 in current British coins, counted and bagged
  • 5.5 Kg approximate weight pre-decimal British coins (Value unknown but LRF can cash these in)
  • 2.5 Kg approximate weight pre-Euro European coins (Value unknown but LRF can cash these in)
  • 1 Book Co-op stamps (£1)
  • 282 Air Miles tokens
  • £14 in British £1 notes (Now obsolete but accepted by banks)
  • £30 Travellers cheques
  • $4 in New Zealand notes
  • Qty 2 x 100 Yugoslavian Dinara notes (Not sure what they are worth!)
The LRF was pleased to receive the donation and I would like to thank you all for your generosity.

New initiatives:

John Fletcher offers some intriguing artwork for your 7.. "If you want to send me your favourite piccy of your seven, I can produce a poster sized mosaic print made up of lots of little pictures of sevens.
Your car will be added to the library of small pics too, so will appear in other posters too (the more varied small pics, the better the larger one appears).
I propose that the following price scale applies: But you can donate what you like - I won’t judge you if you want to pay £1 or £100, but remember that I am paying postage out of my own pocket.

A4 - £5; A3 - £10; A2 - £15; A1 - £20; A0 - £25
This will be supplied rolled in a good quality cardboard postage tube, recorded delivery, so is traceable and accountable by the royal mail.
I can also supply the mosaic image generated on a cd for a fiver (or more if you wish) and you can use this as you for whatever you want.
See http://community.webshots.com/user/fletcherja
You can email the picture to me at fletcherja@hotmail.com or email / ring me on 07786 177132 for a home address if you want to send me a photo to be scanned in."

Matthew Plummer London Marathon: http://www.justgiving.com/bionicmattyp
Matt says:
"The result is that I completed in a time of 4 hours 09 minutes 10 seconds.
Very weary and hot! ran the final mile and a half under so much pain I don't want to be in that state again.
The weather was against us being a lot hotter than the rain we expected & hoped for.
We shall see if we can make it to £2000 when all comes in.

Thanks again."

Fantastic result Matt!! The total so far pledged is now over £600 so there is plenty of room for more donations. Come on chaps, do your stuff!

It's an amazing amount of donations that come from the goodwill between club members offering help, advice, parts and assistance to each other from a huge wealth of experience and knowledge. A benefit that is totally unexpected when filling out a club membership form and then getting involved. Maybe we should have a warning on the form to the effect that membership to the Lotus 7 Club of GB is likely to change your life - forever! All for the love of these funny wee beasties eh!

Under Gift Aid LRF can claim tax back on any donation, large or small, providing you are a UK taxpayer. This means that at no cost to you they are able to claim back 28p for every £1 you give providing you pay income tax or capital gains tax to cover the amount they reclaim.

If you pay tax at a higher rate, you can claim further tax relief on your Self Assessment tax return.

LRF promise "If you wish, we guarantee not to use your details for any other purpose other than to reclaim tax on your donation. We won't pass them on to anyone else, send you newsletters or appeal letters - you won't hear from us again unless you want to. By agreeing to allow us to gift aid your donation, you'll be helping to increase it by nearly a third, without any extra cost to yourself, and with our low running costs, this will go straight into research. Thanks."
