Jan Smit cycled 5454kms!!

Jan has safely arrived back at home after cycling a total of 5454kms on the round trip to Santiago de Compostella and is really curious to know how much he will have raised for NtL so please get the sponsor forms out to work colleagues, friends and family and build on the support for Jan's trip. See http://www.Westernfront.nl/lrf2004 or http://www.Blatchat.com/t.asp?id=54248&pn=2

And just look at this fine bunch of fundraisers:

New initiatives:

Lol Pilfold has brought a stunning offer from Chris Rea towards our Nuke the Leuk efforts that I am going to need some help to ensure is maximised to the full, please! Chris has offered the original 'On the Beach' painting by Alan Fernley to the club to auction on behalf of the Leukaemia Research Fund. A magnificent gesture from the man! If there is anyone out there that can offer any assistance or advice on how best to ensure LRF get the most out of it, worthy of the gift then please get in touch with me soonest. Both Chris Rea and Alan Fernley have signed the painting.

It was Lol's idea that the 7 club adopt the Leukaemia Research Fund as the club charity in 1991 following my own brush with the leuk. I don't think that any of us at the time ever dreamt that NtL would be so successful nor would become such an intrinsic part of club life and we certainly never expected to raise the ongoing and ever increasing amounts of money for the Leukaemia Research Fund - all as a result of more and more of you lovely lot stepping up to the plate with every year that passes.

Many of you will know Lol as being the energy and driving force that built the club to the benchmarking and hugely successful club we know and love today with over 3200 members worldwide. As an aside, Lol's film career debuted in Chris's film La Passione and I'll donate a years club membership as a prize for the first person (outside of Lol's circle of course!) who can correctly name the part he played in the film… email answers only to nuketheleuk@lotus7club.com with a contact tel no. please.

Dr. John Laycock's plans are taking shape and there is an event in the planning stage with Joyce House at LRF. Joyce is responsible for arranging an annual event involving sick children and their families. This takes the form of a trip/party with approximately 25 families involved. The objective is to provide a break from the 'care environment' and allow families to share experiences in a party atmosphere. So far there are 14 cars pledged. Email John on doctorjohn@laycock.com to pledge your car for the day.

It's an amazing amount of donations that come from the goodwill between club members offering help, advice, parts and assistance to each other from a huge wealth of experience and knowledge. A benefit that is totally unexpected when filling out a club membership form and then getting involved. Maybe we should have a warning on the form to the effect that membership to the Lotus 7 Club of GB is likely to change your life - forever! All for the love of these funny wee beasties eh!

Under Gift Aid LRF can claim tax back on any donation, large or small, providing you are a UK taxpayer. This means that at no cost to you they are able to claim back 28p for every £1 you give providing you pay income tax or capital gains tax to cover the amount they reclaim.

If you pay tax at a higher rate, you can claim further tax relief on your Self Assessment tax return.

LRF promise "If you wish, we guarantee not to use your details for any other purpose other than to reclaim tax on your donation. We won't pass them on to anyone else, send you newsletters or appeal letters - you won't hear from us again unless you want to. By agreeing to allow us to gift aid your donation, you'll be helping to increase it by nearly a third, without any extra cost to yourself, and with our low running costs, this will go straight into research. Thanks."
