What a brilliant
start to 2004 NtL. This is really shaping up as a very active year with more and
more club members offering to expend a great deal of effort on behalf of NtL so
please all do what you can to help by obtaining sponsorship from family, friends
and work colleagues to assist wherever possible.
2004 events:
Mark Powling will be running the London Marathon on the 18th April 2004 and will
be fundraising for NtL, see sponsor form enclosed.

Dave Jackson says,
"I have been a member of the Lotus Seven club for three years, during which time
I have been impressed by the generosity of the club and its members in raising
funds for the LRF.
This year, to celebrate reaching the grand old age of 50, I have decided to
cycle from Land’s end to John O’Groats, a total trip of just over 1,000 miles.
The plan is to start on May 3rd and complete the trip in 17-18 days, covering
about 60-70 miles per day.
Originally I intended to do the ride just for my own satisfaction, however I
have been so impressed by the efforts of the L7 Club in raising funds I thought
that it would be a good idea to try to raise funds for the LRF at the same time.
Clearly I will be meeting all of the costs of the ride myself so all money that
I raise in sponsorship would go directly to NTL".
Any welcome offers of help/breakdown repairs/bed for a night while enroute
please email: djackson@gardner-aerospace.com. See elsewhere for proposed timed
itinerary and sponsor form.

Norman Verona, is on
the committee of the South Yorkshire Police "Blue Light Show" taking in place in
Barnsley and is asking the club to provide people to run the gates/car parks and
the food hall. The 2003 show attracted 15,000 members of the public.
If we can provide around 50 people for Sunday 1st August 2004 then NtL will get
the profits from the food and the first £2000 taken on the gates & car parks.
There would also be an area at the show for the Club and a local team is
required to host this on behalf of the club. It's a great way to give the Clubs
efforts for NtL a big shot in the arm and a great opportunity to get involved in
a worthy cause and of course display your car.
Anyone who would like to participate please contact Norman on 0870 735 0010 or
email: norman@dmservices.co.uk. Norman would appreciate an early response if
possible as there is much planning to carry out before the event, not least any
contingency plans if insufficient numbers come forward.

Dr. John Laycock's
plans are taking shape and there is an event in the planning stage in the
Midlands around mid September with Joyce House at LRF. Joyce is responsible for
arranging an annual event involving sick children and their families. This takes
the form of a trip/party with approximately 25 families involved. The objective
is to provide a break from the 'care environment' and allow families to share
experiences in a party atmosphere. It has been suggested that we petrol heads
might wish to participate in the event by providing road rides and making the
cars available for viewing/sitting in.
You may recall John is intending to organise more OFRacing charity days in 2004
but rather than selling passenger seats for donations he would like to donate
the seats to children who are or have been suffering from leukaemia or related
illnesses to assist with their recovery by giving them something different to
look forward to.
Volunteers contact John on: doctorjohn@laycock.com.

Club 2004 DVD:
Doing any club events this year? Got a video camera?
Then we need your help! The club is producing a DVD of what you lot get up to in
2004 on the road, track and not forgetting the social aspect. It will go on sale
in time for Christmas with all proceeds (Steve - or should that be profits?)
going to Nuke the Leuk.
The DVD will include a 5-10 minute feature on each of the major events:
trackdays, sprints/hillclimbs and Curborough, Stoneleigh, Spanish and Swiss
trips, Le Mans, Baywatch, Rumble, Le Sept, Brooklands National Day, and the
Caterham Festival.
To ensure a good mixture of footage we need several contributors for each lined
up beforehand, who can then lend us their tapes (ideally DV format) for a day or
two afterwards - most will be returned next day. For trackdays it is important
that it's not JUST onboard footage. As previously there will also be a separate
Le Sept DVD too
You're not shy are you?
For each segment we also need someone who was there to record a brief commentary
track once the editing is complete. That should just take an evening or weekend
afternoon and then you'll be famous!
To volunteer to submit footage of any club event that you will be attending this
year or to step forward for commentary duties please contact Nick Addison on
01235 528728 or email nickaddison@btopenworld.com

Dave Jackson Bike
LeJoG itinerary:
LE-JOG 2004
On Monday 4th May my good friend Richard
Smith and I will be setting off from Lands End by bicycle, with the intent of
cycling to John O’Groats, a route of over 1000 miles in about 17 days.
Our plan is to cycle between 60-70 miles a day, taking in some of the best
scenery that England, Scotland and (for a brief period) Wales has to offer. This
is a major challenge for both of us, the route we have chosen is ambitious,
sometimes involving quite difficult terrain,
We have also decided to do the ride unsupported, so that we have to carry
everything we need for the whole ride. For me the challenge is enhanced further
by reaching my 50th Birthday in April (so I should really know better!)
I have decided that the Leukaemia Research Fund will be the charity that
benefits from my efforts, please support the ride by using the attached
sponsorship form. Your support will make a real difference to us when the going
gets tough (as it surely will!) and hopefully a real boost to LRF funds.
Thanking you in advance for your support.
Best Regards
Dave Jackson

It's an amazing
amount of donations that come from the goodwill between club members offering
help, advice, parts and assistance to each other from a huge wealth of
experience and knowledge. A benefit that is totally unexpected when filling out
a club membership form and then getting involved. Maybe we should have a warning
on the form to the effect that membership to the Lotus Seven Club is likely to
change your life - forever! All for the love of these funny wee beasties eh!
..oo00oo..
Under Gift Aid LRF can claim tax back on any donation, large or small, providing you are a UK taxpayer. This means that at
no cost to you they are able to claim back 28p for every £1 you give providing you pay income tax or capital gains tax to cover the amount they reclaim.
If you pay tax at a higher rate, you can claim further tax relief on your Self Assessment tax return.
LRF promise "If you wish, we guarantee not to use your details for any other purpose other than to reclaim tax on your donation. We won't pass them on to anyone else, send you newsletters or appeal letters - you won't hear from us again unless you want to. By agreeing to allow us to gift aid your donation, you'll be helping to increase it by nearly a third, without any extra cost to yourself, and with our low running costs, this will go straight into research. Thanks."
And just to
brighten up your pc screen surround or anything else that annoys you, get some
Blatchat
stickers from Barbara Swift on B.Swift@btopenworld.com. Profits to NtL.
