Now onto a new year, a clean sheet and the best ever season starter but for another very sad reminder of just why we do it!

Andy Noble for giving it to me in the first place (for a seemingly innocuous piece of information I gave him), to Gareth as the highest bidder and also for the keenness of all those who bid and pushed the eventual value well above what I thought I'd get. Someone even bid against themselves because they thought it was worth more than their last bid and the offers had slowed up a bit. It's this sort of attitude and spirit that makes me proud to be a  member of this great club."
Hear, hear Nifty!

Upcoming 2004 events:

Norman Verona, is on the committee of the South Yorkshire Police "Blue Light Show" taking in place in Barnsley and is asking the club to provide people to run the gates/car parks and the food hall.

If we can provide around 50 people for Sunday 1st August 2004 then NtL will get the profits from the food and the first £2000 taken on the gates & car parks.

There would also be an area at the show for the Club and a local team is required to host this on behalf of the club.

The 2003 show attracted 15,000 members of the public.

It's a great way to give the Clubs efforts for NtL a big shot in the arm and a great opportunity to get involved in a worthy cause and of course display your car.

Anyone who would like to participate please contact Norman on 0870 735 0010, email: norman@dmservices.co.uk or myself on the contacts below. Norman would appreciate an early response if possible as there is much planning to carry out before the event, not least any contingency plans if insufficient numbers come forward.

..oo00oo..

Dr. John Laycock is intending to organise more OFRacing charity track days in 2004 but rather than selling passenger seats for donations he would like to donate the seats to children who are or have been suffering from leukaemia or related illnesses. This is to assist with their recovery by giving them something different to look forward to and to offer them an experience they may never have had the opportunity to enjoy but for their illness.

Anyone who would like to take part should contact doctorjohn@laycock.com. Come on guys, it is not often someone volunteers to help you get on the track and put a smile on a child's face. Let's make it a real party this year - did I hear at least 10 cars and drivers - or was that 20?

Note, OFRacing stands for Old Farts Racing, a somewhat humorous organisation founded by Geoff Tobert and a few other old farts with the byline 'The older we get the faster we were!' Membership for the over 50's includes a list of seriously eclectic racing machinery of all shapes and sizes owned by aged petrol heads.

..oo00oo..

'Nifty' Styles will be running the London Marathon for NtL after a year's sabbatical from the event following injury. Sponsor forms will be available shortly.

..oo00oo..

Jan Smit will be undertaking another epic bike ride for NtL, a round trip from his home in the Netherlands to Santiago de Compestalla in Spain, something like 5400 kms in 6 weeks. Sponsor forms will be available shortly and please let's give Jan some support for his epic trip.

..oo00oo..

Don't forget to contact Nick Addison for a DVD compilation of the high jinks at Le Sept 2003, see advert.

To enable LRF to be tax efficient, use a Gift Aid form.
Gift Aid forms can be downloaded from her
the Adobe Acrobat reader can be downloaded from here

It's an amazing amount of donations that come from the goodwill between club members offering help, advice, parts and assistance to each other from a huge wealth of experience and knowledge. A benefit that is totally unexpected when filling out a club membership form and then getting involved. Maybe we should have a warning on the form to the effect that membership to the Lotus 7 Club of GB is likely to change your life - forever! All for the love of these funny wee beasties eh!

..oo00oo..

Under Gift Aid LRF can claim tax back on any donation, large or small, providing you are a UK taxpayer. This means that at no cost to you they are able to claim back 28p for every £1 you give providing you pay income tax or capital gains tax to cover the amount they reclaim.

If you pay tax at a higher rate, you can claim further tax relief on your Self Assessment tax return.

LRF promise "If you wish, we guarantee not to use your details for any other purpose other than to reclaim tax on your donation. We won't pass them on to anyone else, send you newsletters or appeal letters - you won't hear from us again unless you want to. By agreeing to allow us to gift aid your donation, you'll be helping to increase it by nearly a third, without any extra cost to yourself, and with our low running costs, this will go straight into research. Thanks."

And just to brighten up your pc screen surround or anything else that annoys you, get some Blatchat stickers from Barbara Swift on B.Swift@btopenworld.com. Profits to NtL.
