Come on you lot I'm still waiting for around 30 odd areas sponsor money for Will Paul's London Marathon run last month! Will did a blinding job so how about a vote of appreciation in the form of a donation?

The forty Portmeirion Pilgrims had a whale of a time by all accounts, and rumour has it that next year the pilgrimage may well go to a three-day event! The Colwyn Bay LRF Branch had a great result with their street collection in Portmadoc and even managed to get the Portmeirion Authorities to cough up £50 for NtL.

Tim Sture, the first of our NtL Academy racers, had a fine start to the series with a 9th place at Wiscombe attracting 12 points in the championship, followed by another 12 points at Harewood. Tim is starting to build his NtL sponsorship and there are plenty of sponsorship forms if anyone would like to punt them around at their place of work. Please feel free to give me a ring for some.

Bit of market research now. I get a few enquiries for small NtL car decals, but haven't done much about it, as I am loath to incur the costs in any if there is no great demand for them. Short run printing of stickers being a costly business, (unless we have a patron out there prepared to help with the costs that is?) If they are of interest perhaps you can make your feelings known to me. We have been running NtL for many years now and it would be nice to have as many 'mobile' adverts as is possible to maximise on the 'impulse buy' donations the decals may generate from the many non-owners that love to peer all over our cars wherever they be parked.

LRF are very grateful of the fact that we do so well with NtL mainly because of the generosity of club members, and long may it continue! However I am conscious that the wee beasties are expensive enough to run on their own without members feeling they have to stump up for charity as well. I'd really prefer to see more money being raised from outside the club as a result of the interest the cars generate. The "Car the Club Built" being a super example of just how effective our babes are for pulling money in from outside.

Just to remind everyone why we do it, Roger Swift sent me this note:

As the Marshals sprint at Curborough on the 21st of May ended before the published closing time, it was suggested that any competitor who wanted to could have an untimed run (not to count towards the competition). Barbara suggested that they could ask for a donation to Nuke the Leuk from anyone taking up this offer and the organisers sportingly agreed.

Barbara set herself up at the top of the circuit entrance road and started rattling her tin and encouraging people to help the 7 Club meet its target of £100,000.00. Everyone took it in good spirit and were very generous. However during a lull in the traffic a lone driver tapped Barbara on the shoulder and quite unexpectedly said "It’s people like you who have helped to save my sons life" (or words to that effect). Apparently his young son had been diagnosed with Leukaemia, been treated and gone into remission, the Leukaemia had restarted and he was now just finishing his second course of treatment, of which they were very hopeful.

As you can imagine, the emotion of this sudden meeting was a little too much for both of them, they just touched, said nothing more and the unknown driver made his donation and disappeared back into the crowd.

The £100,000.00 target is important, but it is good to be reminded by occasions like this that our fund raising is about helping real people and not just meeting a target.

Nuff said!
