Another great result from the Western Raiders down in Taunton - next year's Manor Classic Transport Show is already arranged for Saturday 5th June 1999 and Roger assures me they need more cars for '99 as the event is growing like Topsy! So get it in your diary - entries to be in by 14th May 1999. Many, many thanks to the staff and guests of the Manor Nursing Home for their on-going support. All enquiries to Roger on +44 (0)1823 270273. Douglas and Barbara Osbourne were both very impressed with tCtCB and the International Dinner - enough so to make a donation to Nuke the Leuk '98
THE CAR THE CLUB BUILT Forgive me if this seems like a lot of self-gratification, but you all deserve it, each and everyone, especially the 33,306 who thought the prize well worth a quid for a raffle ticket. Obviously the Project would have been a non-starter but for Arch Motors donating the chassis and Their help and assistance did not finish there, they provided lots of other bits and pieces that proved so useful to the build. The worry, of course, once the chassis and its legitimacy had been overcome, was whether we could fund ithe project enough to do it justice. At the time, all we had was an idea, a chassis and no money. Luckily for us, Brian 'LeJoG' Poulton was well up for the crack and offered to do another. A blinding success once again and raising over £1000 towards the project. Their antics are reported elsewhere but in the meantime, many thanks to all the LeJoGgers and their supporters; Brian and Emma Poulton, Charles Oglethorpe, Tony Boyd (from LeJoG1), Andrew Edney, Tony Dear, Brian Croston and Mattie, Bob Wilson and Barry Lansdal, who all got certificates, and ably supported at various points by Andy Prior, Bob Hesketh, Roland Cook and John Cherry. To cap it all, Keith Hutley, a customer of mine just happened to be casting around for a wothwhile cause for his company's annual charitable donation when I turned up at his offices in the wee beastie (a ruse, as I expected to receive a fair and frank opinion over a tricky contract - but he was a car buff!). A quick blast around the back lane of Iwade and Rainham in Kent, followed by a large steak adequately lubricated with a great deal of Ireland's best and I went home with a cheque for a grand payable to the Lotus Seven Club! We were sorted! The rest, as they say, is history! Adding tthe meat to the project were the following, without whom the Car the Club Built would not have been such a success; The 40th Team: Andy Hamilton, David and Diana Gordon, James & Ruth Whiting and Kevin Ford. In addition, there are all those club members and advertisers who really pulled the stops out, took off their gloves and got down to mucking out their garages, workshops and bedrooms and came up with the bits for a complete car! I will be sorting throught the piles of paperwork and will publicise all those involved in due course, so watch this space! Just in case you think that Coast to Coast '98 was not the success that '97 was, you should all be aware that both Mal and John bought a book of raffle tickets with £5 entry. The true figure for that raised as a result of the CtC98 efforts is a stonking £2726.31
VERY WELL DONE THE LOT OF YOU !
