David Mirylees writes:

The event was a "Tribute to Colin Parade"  at the 1983 GP at Silverstone.  I was supposed to take someone else around but Mansell asked to ride in an open topped car as it was so hot and he was driving straight afterwards.  I benefitted as when all of the other cars went back to the paddock I had to take Mansell into the pit lane and drop him off at the Lotus pit.  I also got to do a 1/4 lap on my own at reasonable 'pose' speed!!  The parade was up to usual Lotus standards - start off at 50 and ended up almost twice that!!  Wonderful !

Nigel Mansell nearly fell out of Dave's car on the first bend ..... Nigel gets a shock as dave turns into Copse
This was Nigel's first ride in a Seven and David duly drove him back to the Lotus pit in front of 175,000 spectators, beating all that F1 machinery into the first corner

(Anyone care to suggest what Nigel might be saying to David?
Ideas through the feedback page please.)

Our Nige decides that sitting down is probably a good idea
Great picture from the same meeting, but who are they all? Anyone recognise these cars/owners?
At the same event, Sarah Chapman was taken for a ride in Malcolm Smith's 1954 Mark VI.  This car has the original de Dion back end and disc brakes fitted, as they were if you wanted to go racing.  Malcolm found the car in the back of a garage in1970, where it had rested for 11 years. Clive Chapman sits in one of Malcolm Rickett's Lotuses.  This one is a 1965 Super 7.  Hazel and her family were most impressed by the number of cars and the excellent condition they were in, and returned to the display area later for a more leisurely viewing. Clive Chapman with Malcolm Ricketts
Stirling Moss leapt out of his parade Vanwall and into Nigel Bright's type 60 (oh alright, series 4). Stirling Moss and Nigel Bright
