Caterham Launch The New Roadsport SV

Over the past 43 years of Seven production, the dimensions of this unique car have stayed true to the original Chapman design. Worldwide race championships and new road models have steered the continual dynamic development of the car, but external dimensions have remained the same.

Introducing a new model - the Caterham Seven Roadsport SV will allow a greater range of drivers to enjoy Caterham Motoring. As a result of customer feedback this model has been developed on an increased dimension cockpit - an extra 80mm in length and 110mm in width. The track is now 1446mm and wheelbase of 2305mm.

Undoubtedly one of the stars of the show for 2000, will be the awesome Caterham Seven R500, which already boasts an impressive CV. Weighing in at a mere 453 kg, with over 230 bhp, Caterham’s 500 bhp/tonne flagship model defied all odds by clinching the lap record by a production car at the fearsome Nürburgring earlier this year. Not content with stealing this record from the clutches of the global giants of the motoring world, the R500 went on to produce the quickest 0-60 time for a production car. 0-60 mph in 3.4 secs.

The Caterham Seven Blackbird.  Nestling beneath the bonnet of this four-wheeled rocket, is a Honda engine commandeered from a Honda Blackbird CBR 1100, a now legendary motorcycle. Borrowing many styling and technical cues from its R500 brethren, the Blackbird’s diet of a featherweight engine and gearbox, mated to Caterham’s Superlight chassis, achieves an impressive low weight of only 430 kg. Adding 170 bhp and a 6 speed sequential gearbox to the equation brings a sensory overload of gear changes and revs. Designed and tested on the track, recording many race wins including class victory in the Nürburgring 24-Hour Race, this new offering from Caterham already has a pedigree to match its road and race stable mates.

The Caterham 21 GTO is a revised version of the 1999 class winner in the Belgium sports car series. This new model is powered by the 230bhp engine developed for the R500, and boasts racing Stack instrumentation and lightweight race interior. This exciting road car is aimed at GT racing’s under 2 litre class and serious track day customers.

Completing the 2000 British Motorshow line up is the Caterham Seven Roadsport featuring the new touring ‘T-type’ interior trim package and the entry level Caterham Seven Classic exhibited with polished aluminium bodywork.

And to enhance the driving enjoyment of any Caterham, road and track craft tuition is available with Cadence Driving, continuing Caterham’s policy of providing driver training to promote excitement and safety, side by side.
